Quite often, people inaccurately comment about the villains of the South and the heroes of the North. Such statements cause bitter debates. Thus, it is important to recognize the good and the bad from both the Confederate and Union armies. The fact is, the war stripped many men of their inhibitions and their immoral behaviors detrimentally affected all fellow Americans. Trevor P. Wardlaw
About This Quote

It is true that on both sides of the Civil War, people were guilty of immoral behavior. Although on many levels, the war led to a more moral era in America, there are some who have not changed since the war ended. There are still those today who are quick to point out the good and the bad people on both sides of the conflict. There are also those who want to break down stereotypes of what black Confederates were like, or what black Union soldiers were like.

It would be interesting to do a study of how people behaved during the Civil War era compared to today, but even if it were possible, it may be too complicated to know for sure. All that can be said with certainty is that our world has become a more morally pure place since the war's end.
